On the Road with the Continuity Team
By Stephen Ryan, MJ

In January of this year Miles Jesu - Continuity members gathered in London to plan out the coming year. We also set goals for 2 and 5 years. It was an interesting process agreeing on goals that were not unrealistically high and still giving us something to truly strive for.

One goal is to approach every parish in the British Isles in the next several years. Our hope is that the parish priest will allow us to tell the parishioners about the Continuity Movement and its continuing growth. If a Continuity member can speak at the end of the Masses on a weekend that is preferred. At the very least, we want to get the information about the Continuity Movement into the Parish Priest’s hands. In this our members can be of great service. If your parish priest is interested in a talk, either after the Masses on a weekend, or in a special setting, Continuity members will be happy to arrange a visit. We can provide you with all the information you need to approach him.

As an example, Dwight Longenecker was very helpful in getting us a weekend to speak at his parish in Chippenham. He spoke very highly of us to his parish priest, Father Millet, and Stephen Milton and I were able to make a visit over Pentecost weekend. Being present for Dwight’s son Theo’s First Holy Communion was an added special blessing. We spoke for 5 to 10 minutes at each Mass about Continuity and the Path to Rome conference. The thrust of the presentation is positive and encouraging, telling people about the ‘Good News’ taking place in the Catholic Church around the world. You might be surprised how many Catholics find this uplifting, and wonder why they don’t hear these things more often. Father Millet was very encouraging and has invited us back in the future. Discussion is under way concerning a possible Parish Mission next Lent. We were given about £200 in free will donations for our work as people left the church. We added about 30 new members to the Continuity Movement from Chippenham. We are very grateful to Father Millet, the Longenecker Clan, and all the parishioners of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We spoke at St. Thomas More’s in Seaford just two weeks before our trip to Chippenham. Fr. Anthony Churchill has been very supportive of the Continuity Movement for some years now. Father Anthony Talbot, who grew up in the parish, was present over the weekend, and was very encouraging as well. Thomas Creen, Nicholas Shchehel and I spoke at all the Masses and met parishioners on their way out after Mass. The parishioners at St. Thomas More’s gave about £180 in free will donations on their way out of church, and we added 50 new members to the Continuity Movement.

On the 21st of May, Tom Creen, Nicholas and I led a Day of Recollection at Whitstable in the home of Stella Maris Lilley. We gave talks on the theology of the Real Presence, The Four Last Things, Modernism, and Continuity and the Path to Rome Conference. There was a Mass offered at the local parish followed by a Holy Hour for the Continuity Movement and the Day of Recollection. All present watched a professionally made video on the history and work of Miles Jesu in the Church. There were about 30 adults present, and 12 of them became new members of Continuity. Stella Maris, Bryan and Jayne Lock, Bob and Peggy Steele, Nick Steele, and Pauline Abnett, all Continuity members, were also present at the Day of Recollection.

On the 5th of June, we weren’t on the road but we were busy. We had our monthly day of Recollection, and opened it up to other men. Four gentlemen joined us for the Recollection, two coming to our house the night before and taking part in all-night Adoration in our chapel. We will be having regular days of Recollection on the first Saturday of each month, open to single and married men. If you’d like to come for the day or come the night before for Adoration, please contact us at 020-8764-0341.
